Makondo is a distinguished traditional music group from Colombia’s Caribbean coast, dedicated to preserving and promoting the authentic sounds of Gaitas and Millo. Formed in the late 1990s, Makondo’s name pays tribute to the literary magic of Gabriel García Márquez, symbolizing the fusion of cultural history and imaginative storytelling. Their music is deeply rooted in Cumbia and Gaita traditions, with rhythms that reflect the vibrant heritage of Colombia’s coastal communities. Their sound incorporates rich percussion, wind instruments, and influences from Vallenato, Porro, and Mapalé, offering an authentic yet innovative take on Caribbean folk music.
